Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Cameron Haghighat (“Halo”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Halo apps and website (collectively, the “Service”). Questions? Email hello@writewithhalo.com.
Our approach
Halo is built to keep your data minimal. Your drafts stay on your device wherever possible. When you sign in, your account simply carries your plan and preferences across your Mac, iPhone, and the browser extension.
Information we process
- Account information. If you sign in, we process an account identifier and email address to authenticate you and apply your plan.
- Text you submit for AI processing. When you ask Halo to rewrite, generate, or research text, that text is sent to our backend and to our AI provider to produce a result. It is processed to fulfil your request and is not used to train AI models.
- Google Docs content (with your permission). In the browser extension, when you act on a Google Doc, Halo reads the text of that document and writes your edit back via the Google Docs API, on your authorization. See the Browser extension section below.
- Usage data. We keep minimal counts (e.g. number of analyses per day) to enforce free-tier limits and basic, anonymized analytics.
- Subscription status. We store whether your account has an active Pro entitlement.
- Payment information. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our Merchant of Record. We do not receive or store your full card details.
Browser extension
The Halo browser extension lets you act on text in the fields you write in on a web page. When you choose an action (rewrite, fix, change tone, summarize, generate, or refine), only the text you select or type and submit is sent to our backend to produce the result, along with your account token to authenticate the request. Outside of Google Docs (below), the extension does not read or transmit the contents of the pages you browse; it acts only on text you explicitly submit. Your session and preferences are stored locally in your browser. Signing in with Google or Apple is completed through writewithhalo.com, which passes the resulting session back to the extension. We do not sell your data.
Google Docs. When you use Halo inside Google Docs, you can authorize it to read and edit the document you are working in. With your permission (granted through Google sign-in, using the Google Docs scope), Halo reads the text of the specific document or tab you choose to act on, sends that text to our backend to generate the requested edit, and then writes the edit back into that document through Google’s official Google Docs API. This happens only for the document you act on and only when you trigger an action; Halo does not access your other Google Docs or Drive files. The document text is processed solely to fulfil your request and is not used to train AI models. Halo’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use information
- To provide and operate the Service and return your AI results.
- To enforce free-tier limits and manage Pro subscriptions.
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the Service.
- To respond to your support requests.
Service providers
We share data only as needed with providers who help us run the Service:
- Anthropic — processes submitted text to generate AI results.
- Supabase — backend, authentication, and database hosting.
- Google — when you use the Google Docs feature, Halo reads and writes the document you act on through the Google Docs API, with your authorization.
- Lemon Squeezy — payments and subscription billing (Merchant of Record).
- Vercel — website hosting.
Data retention
Text submitted for AI processing is used to fulfil your request and is not retained for training. We retain account, usage, and subscription records for as long as your account is active or as required for legal and accounting purposes.
Your choices and rights
- You can clear locally stored data at any time using the in-app “Clear data” control.
- You can request access to or deletion of your account data by emailing hello@writewithhalo.com.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
