Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Cameron Haghighat (“Halo”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Halo apps and website (collectively, the “Service”). Questions? Email hello@writewithhalo.com.

Our approach

Halo is built to keep your data minimal. Your drafts stay on your device wherever possible. When you sign in, your account simply carries your plan and preferences across your Mac, iPhone, and the browser extension.

Information we process

Browser extension

The Halo browser extension lets you act on text in the fields you write in on a web page. When you choose an action (rewrite, fix, change tone, summarize, generate, or refine), only the text you select or type and submit is sent to our backend to produce the result, along with your account token to authenticate the request. Outside of Google Docs (below), the extension does not read or transmit the contents of the pages you browse; it acts only on text you explicitly submit. Your session and preferences are stored locally in your browser. Signing in with Google or Apple is completed through writewithhalo.com, which passes the resulting session back to the extension. We do not sell your data.

Google Docs. When you use Halo inside Google Docs, you can authorize it to read and edit the document you are working in. With your permission (granted through Google sign-in, using the Google Docs scope), Halo reads the text of the specific document or tab you choose to act on, sends that text to our backend to generate the requested edit, and then writes the edit back into that document through Google’s official Google Docs API. This happens only for the document you act on and only when you trigger an action; Halo does not access your other Google Docs or Drive files. The document text is processed solely to fulfil your request and is not used to train AI models. Halo’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How we use information

Service providers

We share data only as needed with providers who help us run the Service:

Data retention

Text submitted for AI processing is used to fulfil your request and is not retained for training. We retain account, usage, and subscription records for as long as your account is active or as required for legal and accounting purposes.

Your choices and rights

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
